![]() The 2010 Annual JAW meeting was held at Ruthin Castle on 29th September. We were pleased to welcome Ex-British Airways Captain Phil Higton, who gave an intriguing talk on human factors. Performance in anaesthetics has often been compared to that of piloting aircraft, and the airline industry has invested heavily to reduce errors, which may prove catastrophic. Captain Higton gave us an insight into how things go wrong, and useful tips for performing at our best, and getting the best performance from those around us. Dr Owen Macintyre talked about his experiences working abroad in Out-of-Programme Training (OOPT). Professor Judith Hall explained the opportunities for research and academic training in Wales. Several questions were posed by trainees to Dr Chris Callander, Dr Campbell Edmondson and Dr Mark Stacey, as part of the trainee forum, tackling some of the issues concerning trainees. Medieval Banquet at Ruthin Castle An evening of medieval entertainment was enjoyed by all!
